Otherwise called the Golden Coast due to its 150 km stretch of fine golden sandy beaches, Costa Dorada is clearly one of the most sought after family holiday destinations in the world.
Situated on the southern part of the Catalonia and beneath Barcelona in Spain, the terrain is dotted with mountains on the Northern end. However, simple resorts and apartments cover the Southern end and offer an ideal getaway from the hectic grind of daily life. Receiving about 3,500,000 visitors every year, this sunny beach offers something for every member of the family.
Climate: - Although the weather is pleasant throughout the year, it tends to get a bit hotter in the month of August with temperatures rising to 34C. Showers are common during spring and autumn but occasional showers do occur in summer as well. The best time to visit the place would be from April to July where the coast receives moderate sunshine and lets you enjoy your visit.
Means of Transport: - The Capital city is Tarragona and is situated at a distance of 10 km from the Reus Airport located in the Southern end of the region. Travelers can also fly into the El Prat de Llobregat airport in Barcelona and travel to the surrounding regions by buses or private taxis though bus rides may tend to get a bit rough. One can also use the train that runs every 30 minutes from Barcelona’s airport to the city center.
Places of Interest: – The entire coast is filled with spectacular beaches and towns that have intriguing history and culture. Inland, one can find numerous historical monuments and monasteries of Santas Creus, Scala Dei and Proble in the towns of Reus, Tortosa, Torragana, Montblanc and Valls.
The resort of L Amella de Mar is a small fishing port with secluded coves that would suit honeymooning couples and others who would like to have some peace and quiet. Along the rugged mountain side, game reserves of Cardo and Tivissa are also major attractions to visit. The Ebro River provides a plethora of activities for the more adventurous ones with the facility for wind fowl hunting in its numerous ditches and labyrinths. And if you are the kind who needs to have a lively atmosphere, the town of Sitges would do fine with its share of night life and hotels for the party minded.
Entertainment: - Costa Dorada boasts of being one of the best destinations for family holidays especially if you have your kids with you. There are several child friendly resorts in the town of Salou which also houses the renowned theme park, Universal Meditteranea run by Universal Studios. The massive theme park consists of five different worlds, each with its own set of entertainment shows, rides, and restaurants.
Among these, the Mediterranean World hosts a nightly show called Fiestaventura in addition to other attractions like The Grand Canyon Rapids Water ride, the Stampida Roller Coaster, the Dragon Khan roller coaster (acclaimed to be Europe’s biggest), the Sea Odyssey Underwater adventure and a giant lake for yacht sailing.
The park has its own RENFE train station and can be reached by coaches and buses from the surrounding towns. Another attraction for families would be the Aquapolis Water Park situated in the town on La Pineda which houses numerous land and water activities for children in addition to a dolphin show.
As a best bet, Costa Dorada would prove to be the perfect location which says it has it all to make your holiday the perfect one with an exciting nightlife, private getaways, spectacular views, wonderful entertainment avenues and simply the best of nature.
