travelwithchildernSo you’ve decided to bring the kids along on that holiday? Take a deep breath and banish the fears of rambunctious kids running amuck.  A little careful planning will make sure that you have comfortable holidays, and that the kids will have memories to last a life- time. Here’s how.

What to pack

When packing for kids, especially babies, leave enough room for nappies and other baby baggage. To ensure cleanliness and hygiene and for ease, carry disposables. But stock up, baby emergencies can happen at any time.

While carrying clothes for older kids, make sure you go in for quick dry and wrinkle free clothing. Don’t overload your bags, you can always buy what you need later. Wearing the heavier items like jeans or jackets makes sense on a winter journey, since they take up a lot of room which can be better used.

Carry essentials like a first aid kit and a box of medecines. With kids around on a holiday, the chances that they may hurt themselves while having fun are quite high. Be prepared for such emergencies with a basic first aid kit.

What to do

Whether it is helping to plan for their favorite destination or  making them in-charge of the sandwiches for the trip, get the kids involved. Sharing responsibilities with your kid will teach them ownership, as well as keep them occupied and interested through the journey. Discuss with your child places that they would like to visit and help them to integrate their ideas into your itenerary

Long transit hours, delays, roadblocks WILL occur and its best to go into your trip prepared. Leave a little room for board games, video games and any other thing that will keep them busy during the long waits. If your kid likes to read make sure you carry along an interesting book as well.

Create a Memories Book where each child can collect items and small souvenirs throughout the trip and paste them together into a scrapbook or keep them into a box. This will keep your children busy at least until they have boarded the plane home. After that, the board games take over

Travelling with your kids is an adventure, and keeping them at hand, a challenge. But when you sift through your child’s memory book years later, you’ll find the holiday worth all that trouble.
