Salt and Pepper – Naples!

naplesItaly is a romantic mosaic of regions, predominantly halved into the north zone and the south zone. Naples sits in the South of Italy, the regional capital of Campania. A major industrial region, an important seaport and also the main city in the southern part of the country, Naples has been on the world map for two major reasons. Pizza and volcano Vesvius. It is claimed that the world’s most popular food “pizza” saw its first prototype here. The sole eruptive volcano in Europe, Vesuvius is constantly under scientific monitoring which attracts a lot of tourist attention.

Prioritise you visit to the Ruins of Pompeii, to get a view of a stunning city despite it being destroyed by the volcanic outburst of its towering neighbour in 79 AD. The amphitheatre where gladiators struggled, houses, mansions, public places are all a part of your revisiting a bygone era.

Naples is not Rome or Venice. One must remember that it has striking poverty balanced out by beautiful architectural displays. The clealiness of the city might not be to the liking of a hygiene-finicky traveller.

However historical sites make the city worth it. The Cathedral of Naples is the main church of the city (Duomo) and was dedicated to the city’ patron San Gennaro. The frescoes, altarpieces and several other elements of artwork that adorn the house of worship, makes those inside of it feel like in an art museum. Right across the Cathecral of Naples, is the church of Girolamini. The building was inspired by the Florentine Renaissance.

La Fontana dell’Immacolatella built in 1601 by Pietro Bernini and Michelangelo, the ornate Porta Capuana that arched since the 15th century designed by Guiliano da Maiano are worth you time in Naples.

The streets are the veins of the city, circulating with life and energy. Pizza without doubt splendidly overshadows the rest of the local dishes. But do not stop yourself from trying out edible novelties. Start with squids and octopus and include vegetable croquettes and tasty meat balls in your food indulgence.

A pinch of salt and a dash of pepper and you are geared to stomach a flavourful city.
