Splashing around in the water has always been a favorite pastime with kids and adults alike. And with the introduction of water parks, the dream only got bigger. With more than 1000 water parks operating all over the world, there is no end to the fun one can have in these places. However, if the weather decides to play spoilsport, you would have to reconsider your decision of visiting one.
Not to worry! Some newly opened theme parks have found a way to beat even the weather. How? They are built indoors. Located in huge malls and resorts, these indoor water parks maybe within closed doors but offer no less excitement and fun than the usual outdoor water park.
Here are some of the best indoor water parks you can find in North America. If you are considering a visit to any of these regions and find the weather miserable, just head over the indoor water park located in that area and have a splashing time with the entire family.
Kalahari Water Park: Welcome to one of the largest indoor water parks in the world. Located in Sandusky, Ohio, the site comprises of a complete resort in addition to the water park and is a wonderful place to enjoy your vacation.
The Kalahari Water Park is based on an African Theme and houses the world’s first Zip Coaster ride that moves uphill. In addition to this, you can also find two surfing simulators called Kalahari Surfaris, a play area for kids and adults alike called the Wild Kingdom and plenty of water slides and chutes. You can also enjoy the services of several spas located in the park and around the resort.
Kalahari Resort: Located in Wisconsin, this park is a variation from the original park in Ohio and is a part of the Wisconsin Dell group. Complete with spas, movie theaters, arcade and fitness centers, the large park has many water rides to keep the entire family entertained for hours.
This includes an indoor water coaster, water chutes and slides. In addition to the park, kids will love the special kids’ activity zone where they can enjoy taking part in karaoke competitions, animal encounters and treasure hunts.
Castaway Bay: Welcome to Cedar Point, a place where you can find some of the best and the largest coasters in the world. Located in Sandusky, Ohio, the Castaway Bay operates the year around. Though slightly smaller than your average indoor water park, the Castaway Bay has some really fascinating water rides that guarantee to amuse the entire family.
These include wave pools, indoor and outdoor whirlpools (called The Grotto), hot tubs to soak in the winter, the Rendezvous Run coaster and the Lookout Lagoon Family Fun House with a huge tipping bucket at the top.
Wilderness Resort: Located in Wisconsin, this indoor water park is again a part of the Wisconsin Dells group and combines wonderful accommodation and signature cuisine with some of the best water rides in the world.
The park has outdoor rides as well that operate in the summer season. Apart from that, the entire park is spread over three separate buildings and houses some really breathtaking water rides and chutes.
Chula Vista Resort: Again a part of the Wisconsin Dells Group in Wisconsin, Chula Vista is located in a slightly remote area near the Wisconsin River and is a popular destination for families and couples who prefer solitude to the maddening crowds in most of the theme parks.
Not that the park is completely empty. The Chula Vista has its own share of visitors and houses an outdoor water park in addition to the two indoor ones. In addition to partying in the water all day, you can also check out the resorts sports complex, arcade center, spa, convention center and the miniature golf course. If you prefer to stay for the night, the resort offers a range of quality accommodation and on site restaurants you can choose from.
Splash Lagoon: Located in Erie in Pennsylvania, this indoor water park incorporates a tropical theme based design and houses several large and small water rides that suit every member of the family from tots to elders.
Some of the signature rides and attractions of the Splash Lagoon include The Cyclone Tubes, the Hurricane Hole water slide, bowl rides and the Tiki Tree House which has a huge tipping bucket. In addition to this, the park also has several smaller slides, chutes, water hoses, sprays and pumps for toddlers to enjoy getting soaked to the bone.
The Great Wolf Lodge: Situated near the Niagara Falls in Ontario, this indoor water park based on a forest theme and is extremely spacious. In addition to housing various rides like water coasters, surfing simulators, wave pools and several other smaller water rides, slides and tubes.
Six Flags Great Escape Lodge: This is the first indoor water park from the Six Flags Group and is located in Lake George, New York. The park enjoys a prime location opposite to The Great Escape Theme Park and you can stop by there for a short period for dry games.
The park operates only from May to October and houses among other attractions, a lazy river ride, a Boogie Bear Surf ride, the Avalanche Family Raft ride and a Flow Rider wave stimulator. Another highlight of the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge is its unique transparent roof that lets in plenty of sunshine and allows the less adventurous guests to work out on their tan as the rest of the family splash around in the water.
Water Park of America: Now this is one water park you definitely need to visit, come what may! Located in Bloomington in Minnesota, the indoor park is situated right next to the Mall of America and like its neighbor, is humongous (covers 70000 square feet).
The highlight of the Water Park of America is the tallest water slide in the world. Rising to an astounding 10 storey height, the slide enables you to move down at rocket speed before you hit the water.
