Mysterious Monument of Stonehenge

Stonehenge is located in Wiltshire, England. This monument belongs to the Neolithic and the Bronze age. The structure has a great significance and is one of the largest structures in the world.

This is spread over a region of 2000 hectares. This site in the Salisbury plain has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. It is one of the top tourist attractions in England.

One of the most unique things about Stonehenge is that nobody exactly knows that what it is all about. Even the historians do not have a clear idea why Stonehenge was created.

The purpose of carrying the stones to the place is not clear. A visitor goes there with a lot of expectations and is surprised to see a large area full of stones. The place has its own unique charm.

There are special access visits to the Stonehenge. During the normal course of the day, you cannot go near the stones. You should take a guide with you who can tell you a lot about the mysteries of the place.

Though Stonehenge is visible from a distance; from car park or from the road side nevertheless you will be attracted to have a close view of the stones. There is an entry fee to go closer to the see the monument.

Stonehenge is surrounded by beautiful landscape also known as the Chalk grasslands. It has been meticulously preserved by the ‘trust’ which looks after Stonehenge.

There are several rolling hills and valleys around the Salisbury plain. It’s a landscape of an ideal country side.  The Flora and Fauna around Stonehenge is of a wide variety. Birdsfoot, Yellow rattle and Trefoil are among some of the plants found in the area. The soil in the area also helps in breeding a number of insects.

Apart from Stonehenge there are other places worth visiting nearby, like Woodhenge and Durrington Walls. These are contemporary monuments of Stonehenge.

You can catch a bus or a train to visit Stonehenge. Through train you will have to get down at Andover or Salisbury. There are taxis available as well to visit the place.
