munichThis is the City of Monks, which is what its German name translates to. As reunited Germany’s third largest city, Munich, capital of Bavaria, is famous all over the world as the alma mater of the one of the world’s best-known luxury automobile brands –BMW, the Ultimate Driving Machine.

It also has to its credit another reputation. This is where Adolf Hitler staged his (in) famous coup, the Beer Hall Putsch. Although abortive, it turned out to be the stepping stone to his rise to power, which threw the continent into anarchy. In later years, too, Munich played a major role in Nazi politics.

However, today, Munich is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe, a measure of how far the nation has left behind the exclusivist philosophy of the man who brought it so much disrepute. As much as two-fifths of the city’s one and a half million people are immigrants.

Munich is one of the best-equipped, best-organized and safest cities in the world. A visit to this city will make your stay safe as well as entertaining and fun-filled. It hosts the famous Oktoberfest, an annual carnival dating to 1810.

Munich is a real paradise for the lover of ale. The Hofbrauhaus, perhaps the most famous beer hall in the world, is one of the city’s major attractions. During the Oktoberfest, there is a virtual torrent of beer. The city has about two dozen beer gardens.

Yet, Munich is not all fun and frolic. It also has some of Europe’s most reputable universities, which have churned out a sizeable number of Nobel Prize winners. The Max Planck Society has over a dozen institutes that impart education in a variety of subjects from the sciences to International Relations and from taxation to psychiatry. Is it any surprise that Munich is the leading publishing city anywhere in Europe?

Other attractions include the National Theatre, several museums, various well-known operas, many film studios and innumerable arts and cultural centres. In short, a trip to Europe is incomplete without a visit to the complete city!
