Vacations do not necessarily mean you have to travel to beach destinations, mountain ranches or theme parks. There are lots of other ways to enjoy a peaceful vacation and one way is to rent a houseboat to course through Lake Powell in Arizona.
Lake Powell has always been a favorite with the people of Arizona and tourists who flock to the area every year. Also termed as the best house boating destination in America, the lake extends into both Utah and Arizona and is also a part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. In the high season, numerous house boats can be seen coursing through the gentle waters of the lakes and there are various rental services that rent out house boats of all types and sizes.
Location: Reaching Lake Powell is not a problem if you are traveling via road. Flights land at the nearby Page Airport from where cars, taxis and shuttle buses offer transportation to the lake. The Lake operates its own shuttle service which transports visitors to and from the nearby regions including the airport.
Lake Particulars: Lake Powell is deemed to be 400 feet at its deepest point and is nearly 186 miles long. The beaches are filled with soft rosy sand and gently curved red rocks dot the shores at regular intervals. With over 2000 miles of shoreline, the lake offers various interesting places to dock at in between.
The Houseboats: Lake Powell offers different sizes and types of houseboats depending on the size of the traveling party. Most of the visitors to the lake are couples, friends or extended families.
Kayaks and motorboats are available for rent in addition to large houseboats that typically consist of a lounge area, many bedrooms, a dining area, a fully accessorized kitchen and a rooftop deck with plenty of sun loungers.
Some of the accessories you are bound to find in any houseboat include anchors and line, spare propellers, life jackets, fire extinguishers, marine roads, matches, buckets, ice picks, cooking and dining utensils, drinking water supply, deck chairs and toiletries.
Most of the houseboats also have a slide at the back of the boat that leads into the water. This enables guests, especially children to go for a swim as when they feel like it. The nearby areas of the lake offer interesting activities like horse riding, water sports, hiking, bicycling and canoeing, and guests can dock anywhere in the lake to enjoy these facilities.
If you are willing to shell out some extra money, you can also rent a houseboat that is fitted with luxurious amenities including modern day entertainment systems, air conditioning, and navigational equipment. These include GPS units that provide pre programmed information about the lake and interesting sights to visit along the lake.
In addition to renting out equipment, visitors to the lake can also bring their own food, sleeping bags, cameras and fishing gear.
Food: In case you haven’t brought any food and want to enjoy your cruise around the lake rather than staying in the kitchen all day, you can take advantage of the meals on board option offered by various agencies located around the lake. The program offers guests the option to pre order their meals before they set out to explore the lake.
Meals are prepared by professional chefs at the Lake Powell Resorts and Marina and are aptly balanced to meet individual dietary requirements. The meals are delivered to the house boat prior to departure and guests can store them in frost free coolers.
When you are ready to eat, all you need to do is take out the food and heat it. You don’t have to worry about cleaning up after meals as the rental agency from which you rented the houseboat takes care of after tour cleaning and collects the coolers as well.
Guests have an option of choosing among three different types of meals with the above program. Accordingly, you can choose the Market Menu which offers you the food products and ingredients necessary for preparing the meal; the Galaxy Gourmet Menu in which the food is half prepared and needs some additional cooking to be finally served; and the Chef On Board Menu which offers food cooked to 90% completion and requires only heating or some final touches.
Visit Lake Powell for your next holiday and enjoy a peaceful holiday coursing through some fantastic lake side sceneries. In addition to soothing your nerves, the experience is guaranteed to enlighten you and make you feel rejuvenated. Try it out and you won’t be disappointed!
