Honeymoon in the picturesque Nainital

nainitalA beautiful hill station in Uttarakhand, towards the north of India, Nainital provides for the perfect honeymoon with picturesque landscape, scenic beauty, greenery and wonderful lakes and mountains. Apart from shopping and sight seeing, you can also be a part of the various adventure sports organized here, like rock climbing, trekking, horse riding and boating.

Situated at a height of 6,358 feet above sea level, honeymoon in Nainital is incomplete without a visit or a boat ride in the Naini Lake. Here you can do paddling, yachting or rowing. You can also find Gandhiji’s statue on a bridge dividing the lake into two halves- Mallital and Tallital. You can go shopping in Mall road, which is just next to the lake and is spread out with marts, candle shops, sweet shops and designer stores. You will also find travel agencies, banks, restaurants, cafes and hotels. You can get busy with shopping for antiques and imitation jewellery at the Flats, Chat Bazar and Bhotia market. There are also mosques, gurudwaras and temple like Naina Devi temple.

Snow View point, situated on top of the hills, gives you a splendid view of the mountain ranges and ghats ahead. You can put your photography skills to use by taking some excellent pictures of the scenery. Telescopes are kept here to give you a detailed view of the place. After walking all the way up, you can take a break by chatting with your spouse over a cup of hot tea.

Starting from Mallital, you can get an aerial view of Nainital by hopping onto the Nainital Ropeway, which travels a distance of 705 meters and can accommodate 12 people. The Cave Garden nearby is another major crowd puller and has the Eco Cave Garden, which has 6 caves having tiger, panthers, snakes and porcupines, and Musical Fountain, which is a one of its kind fountain in India.

Go on a horse ride all the way till Naina peak or China peak, the highest peak at a height of 2600 meters. Come to the Land’s End spot, which gives you a feeling as if you have reached the end of the land. After this, you can move on to Dorothy Seat and Tiffin Top, which has a memorial spot built in honour of an English lady believed to have been killed in an air crash. For a warm and secluded place, away from the crowd, you can choose the Kilbury, which is an ideal picnic spot for a quiet and subdued afternoon.

The months of March to June and September to October are the best months to visit Nainital because the weather is the most pleasant and offers good options when it comes to shopping and touring. You can get flights from Delhi or Chandigarh to Jubbarhatti airport and take a taxi to Nainital, which is about 23 km away. You can also take a train from Kalka (reach Kalka from Delhi by train), which is about 96 km away from the main city. Likewise, you can also take a bus or car from Delhi, and reach Nainital in 8 hours.
