If you are in Europe and are thinking of taking your kids out on an educational trip, try out the Anglesey Sea Zoo in Wales. Touted to be the largest marine aquarium in the whole of Wales, the zoo boasts of a prime beach front location along the Menai Strait, with a spectacular backdrop provided by the spectacular Snowdonia.
The larger than life aquarium has heaped in several awards over the years for its friendly staff, cleanliness, quality control and of course, its animal conservation program. Some of the more prestigious awards include the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme, the Welcome Host Award, the Wales Tourist Board Environmental Award; the National Winner of the Tourism Training Award, the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion Certificate of Excellence; and the Gold Medal for Services to Tourism.
The employees at the Aquarium are extremely friendly and involve themselves in a lot of conservation work (local and international). The aquarium houses over 150 species of marine animals found mainly in and around the Northern Coast of Wales and Anglesey. Great care has been taken to recreate the natural environment for these animals to live and breed in. This in turn enables the animals to be at ease and get adapted to their surroundings faster.
Reaching Anglesey Sea Zoo is not an issue and traveling on the A55 Highway across the Britannia Road Bridge will ensure you reach the zoo safely. After reaching Anglesey, guests are asked to just follow the lobster signs that lead towards Brynsiencyn from where the zoo is a 10 minutes’ drive away.
The aquarium is divided into various zones which showcase different traits of the marine world and their inhabitants. Guests can enjoy in depth views of invertebrates which are showcased in the Bone Free Zone, walk through a Shipwreck site, catch a glimpse of the fierce man eaters in the Shark Pool; and stop by at the Big Fish Forest for a complete display of the underwater world as seen in oceans.
The aquarium organizes a special facility for its visitors wherein you can buy original pearls and pearl studded jewelry. Shipped from Japan, these rare pearls come in a variety of colors and are a spectacular sight to behold!
Anglesey Sea Zoo is famous for its marine conservation and educational programs. Keeping in mind the depletion of natural underwater resources and habitats, including sea animals, the aquarium has done wonders in preserving many nearly extinct species of sea animals and plants.
Some of the award winning conservation programs run by the aquarium include the Sea Horse Conservation Program, the Dolphin Rescue Service and the Lobster Hatchery of Wales.
In addition to conserving a wide range of marine life, the employees at Anglesey Sea Zoo strive to educate visitors about the plight of these animals and their significance. The aquarium undertakes regular school tours which range from a simple worksheet lesson to beach safaris, guided tours and interactive speech sessions with professional marine biologists.
The onsite gift shop sells everything from exquisite pearl oysters to gold and silver jewelry. In addition to this, guests can also enjoy the other onsite amenities of the aquarium which include the Adventure Playground, Radio Controlled Boat Rides, the Octojup Bouncy Castle and the Crazy Golf Site.
