Lush forests, misty mountains, enchanting waterfalls, greenery and cool climate. This is Lonavala for you. A hill station situated in Maharashtra, India, you can come here for the much-needed break from your work and deadlines. 625 m above sea level, this hill station is a famous tourist destination of many people in the country.
Start your day with a visit to the Karla Caves where you can look at some ancient ruins and Buddhist carvings. Not a very crowded place, it will give you ample time to explore it in a better way. The Chaitya caves are also a must-see. You can also go trekking to the Bhaja caves, which is situated next to Karla caves. The rocks date back to 2nd century BC and make up many temples. Lohagad Fort also deserves a mention for its old, rustic look and also for the fact that it was the battleground of the Maratha warrior, Shivaji. You can get clicking with your camera. Just stand and observe the scenery and take in the cool air. You will feel rejuvenated and refreshed.
Get drenched under the waterfalls in the Bushy Dam, which is a nice picnic spot. Simply take chips and chocolates and while away your time. The Rajmachi Point, located around 6.5 km from Lonavala will help you get a bird’s eye view of the hills. Come to Shivaji’s fort and explore the ruins yourself by going deep into the forests and hills. Connect with nature by coming to the Tungarli Lake, which has pleasant crystal-clear water to give you a soothing and serene feeling. The water here is also the main source for the residents of Lonavala.
The best way to explore Lonavala is by foot. Just walk through the various valleys and forests. The ideal time to visit Lonavala is during the winter season when the climate is extremely pleasant and soothing. Also during the start of the rainy season, when mild rains are expected, a visit to Lonavala will seem magical and rewarding. So if you are fed up of working till late night and want to just run away from city life, come to Lonavala and experience heaven on earth.
