vivocity-02 Visiting Singapore? Then you better be prepared for a shopping spree like no other you have ever been on. The streets of Singapore are lined with boutiques and bargain outlets that sell everything from designer clothes to antique jewelry.

And if you are the kind of person who likes to get everything under one roof, then head straight out to VivoCity, the country’s largest shopping mall.

Opened in December 2006, VivoCity enjoys a prime harbor front location and is situated right next to Keppel Harbor. One can expect the same bustling atmosphere inside as well. The name of the mall was coined to signify vivaciousness, bustling energy and a modern day lifestyle that can be experienced by everyone. That is exactly what the mall provides with nearly 4.2 million visitors every year.

Developed by the real estate company Mapletree, there were a few flaws in the construction and services to begin with. But as time progressed, all the issues were corrected and the mall now stands as a witness to incredible Singaporean architecture. All of the mall’s seven floors are filled to the core with shops, events, entertainment and excitement around every corner.

Getting There:- The mall is situated in the Harbor Front area which is easily accessible by roads. The area is just a 5 minutes by car from the CBD and you can also drive in from Orchard Road which is about 10 minutes away.

Alternatively, if you are traveling via the expressway, the place would be very easy to locate as it stands right beside the Ayer Rajah Expressway.

Getting in and around:- Parking can never be a problem with the mall’s car park which is spread over the entire building. There is provision to park up to almost 4000 cars with plenty of loading and unloading bays. The mall also has coaches and tour buses that operate within the premises and effectively transport visitors between various levels.

What’s there to see?:- Built around an area of 24 hectares, this huge shopping mall has everything you could possibly think of in terms of shopping and entertainment. In addition to the loads of franchise outlets and smaller retail showrooms, the mall boasts of housing the largest cinema hall in the whole of Singapore with a whopping 15 movie screens that can seat a total of 2293 viewers in addition to the largest cinema screen in Asia.

There is a large promenade, nearly 300 meters long which is used for picnics and an area where small kids can have loads of fun. The entrance to the promenade is flanked with small water fountains and there is also a small playground for kids.

The Sky Park was where the mall’s opening was celebrated. This rooftop space boasts of wide spaces for many events and parties; and it also has a huge amphitheater on the roof. The nearby island of Sentosa can also be viewed from the Sky Park and there is a small water feature at the roof top where people can relax and wet their feet.

The rail expressway that connects Singapore and Sentosa Island (Sentosa Express) starts off from the 3rd level of the mall where the Sentosa Monorail Station is located. The 3rd level also houses a shallow pool for small children in addition to a huge Food Republic Court outlet.

The mall boasts of outlets belonging to prestigious firms from around the world. Some of the world renowned franchises that operate from the mall include Toys “R” Us, Diary Farm, Giant Hypermarket, 7-Eleven and Guardian Health and Beauty among others.

VivoCity has its own food mart located in the level 1 and basement 2 of the building. Called the hyper mart, it is possible to find all kinds of food items from all around the world. The two levels are connected with their own travelator and it is a pleasant experience shopping for fresh ingredients.

You never need to go hungry inside the mall as there are two large food courts situated on the 3rd level and the 2nd basement respectively. Operated by BreadTalk Group, he food court on the 3rd level sprawls over 2500 square meters of the area and is a Food Republic Court. The one in the basement is operated by the Kopitiam Group and covers about 2200 square meters of basement 2.

VivoCity is also a landmark when it comes to showcasing art exhibits from around the world. All the exhibits are masterpieces from recognized artists around the world and are permanently placed in the Singapore Biennale which is present within the premises.

If all this is not enough, the mall also has a whole horde of other amenities at your service. There is a state of the art fitness center called the Planet Fitness Gym. You can enjoy a rejuvenating massage at any one of the malls numerous international spas.

In addition to the food courts, there are also a handful of restaurants offering delicacies from different parts of the world at your disposal. And if you feel like livening up the moment, enjoy some smashing beats at the dance clubs that are scattered all over the mall.
