Cruise through Copenhagen

copenhagenMonocle magazine named the Danish capital, Copenhagen, ‘the most livable city in the world’ and there is little wonder why. One would be hard put to find a more entertaining city in all of Scandinavia. Copenhagen has something to offer for every palate with attractions ranging from ancient castles to swanky restaurants.

Monuments and castles

The statue of the Little Mermaid is the most famous city landmark and makes for a good starting point for a tour of Copenhagen. The city is houses some of the most enchanting castles is the world.

Amalienborg Palace, visible from the Copenhagen Opera House, is the winter abode of the royal family. One can get a stunning view of the entire city from the Royal Tower. The Kronborg Castle and the sea forts of Copenhagen are also worth a look.

Museums

Copenhagen’s numerous museums boast the rich cultural history of Denmark. The largest of these is the National Museum located in an eighteenth century building. The Viking Ship Museum is home to various rescued Viking ships and Nordic boats. The ‘Ripley’s Believe It Or Not’ Museum is a fascinating repository of incredible artifacts.

Entertainment

Discover the child in you by stepping into Copenhagen’s renowned amusement parks. The hair-raising rides of the magical Tivoli Gardens are ideal for children and grown-ups alike. The lesser-known Bakken is the world’s oldest surviving amusement park and is the perfect place to try some crazy, ancient rides.

Shopping

Canal tour

No trip to Copenhagen is complete without a guided harbour and canal tour. The hour long tour takes you through most of the famous sights and also all parts of the old city.

When you tire of the cruising through the city, you can stop for coffee at a waterfront café or pay a visit to one of Copenhagen’s gazillion restaurants for traditional Danish open sandwiches and beer.
