Alta Ski Area- For Best Skiing and Best Rates

Alta is a small town in Salt Lake City in Utah, United States. The population of this tiny little hamlet is just over 400 people, but every year more than 500,000 people rush to this town to have a go at it’s majestic snow covered slopes! Alta is famous for its powder skiing options.

It all started in the year 1935, when Alf Engen, the Norwegian skiing legend, came here to develop the area. He saw the potential of the mountains for skiing and as they say, there was no looking back.

Alta opened it’s doors or you can say it’s mountains to the first ski lift in the year 1938… And now, more than 30 years later, this small town gets a large percentage of its annual income and is mostly centered around the Alta Ski Area.

It’s very easy to get to Alta as it is located only 25 miles southeast of Salt Lake City at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, State Highway 210. you can also fly into the Town as it’s only 45 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport and direct flights from most of the major cities fly there.

The ski area also offers many options for accommodations and that too at a very nominal price. You can choose from base lodges, condos and vacation homes. In addition to skiing, the ski area also offers multiple dining options at every stage…. at the base area and also at mid mountain levels.

The ski area also offers helicopter and back-country tours, massages and church services. You can also take private lessons and it has many shops from where you can rent the ski equipment if you don’t have your own.

Deep powder snow, varied terrains and breathtaking scenery all around make for an experience out of this world. If you are planning a trip to ski there, do make sure to plan it in the season time which is between November and April.

It is the time when you will get fresh powdery snow so you can enjoy the experience of powder skiing. Another thing to note is the ski area doesn’t allow snowboarding.

During the season time, the area is open daily from 9 in the morning till 4:30 in the evening. The base elevation is 8530 ft / 2,600 mts and the mountains go as high as 10,550 feet or 3,216 mts. The Alta ski area offers around 890 hectares area to ski around.

The Alta ski area is not only beautiful but is quite easy on the pocket as well… it has many options for travellers on a budget offering cheap accommodation and dining options.
